What to expect at cheerleading tryouts?
“Don’t worry if you have zero experience! Our team is the best because we know how to train athletes from beginners and help them level up!! We have enough teams so that you’ll always have space to grow.”
Tryouts will be a fun virtual session where you can meet your future teammates and get an idea of what the season will be like! Everyone makes a team and we won’t be expecting you to try anything new that you aren’t comfortable with. We just want to get an idea of which team you’d be best suited for! We offer a range of teams which cater for different abilities and commitment levels as well as a class dedicated solely to practicing your tumbling (this is the flips and somersaults you see athletes doing in cheerleading and gymnastics classes).
Lead up to Virtual Tryouts!
Everyone will fill out a Ultimate Cheer Virtual Tryouts form. This is similar to the form you would complete on the day – it lets us know a bit about your experience. Don’t worry if you have zero experience! Our team is the best because we know how to train athletes from beginners and help them level up!! We have enough teams so that you’ll always have space to grow. Our head coach led a team to win first in the UK, when one third of the team were complete beginners at the start of season!!
You will be sent a link to a Zoom session – just log on to tryout! Make sure you are wearing sports clothes and have space to move about.
What are virtual tryouts?
The group call will start with the coaches chatting to attendees (and parents if under 18) and explaining a bit about UC and how the season will run!
Athletes will be put into smaller groups and enter a Zoom ‘room’ with a coach! Kids will be grouped by age!
The coach will chat to the group about their cheer experience (don’t worry if you are new!) and answer any questions the group may have!
There will be a chance for athletes to learn jumps and stunt drills (it’ll all be taught from scratch!) and then have a go at them! Flyers will also get a chance to demonstrate their flexibility.
Younger teams will participate in cheer-related games!
Athletes will have a chance to demonstrate motions, turns, leaps, jumps and flexibility!
The Zoom call will be fun and not scary! It’s mainly a chance for coaches to get to know you and you to get to know your future teammates!!
Everyone makes a team so this won’t be like taking an exam! Plus there’s always chances to move up after tryouts anyway if you’re a quick learner.
Team placements will be emailed out later that week! Eek! Prepare for your best season yet!
